Thank you to all the families who made SLCs a success! Our students worked hard to reflect on their progress throughout the year, and to share these in a thoughtful way with their families. It was a pleasure to witness how much each child has grown and matured this year, and how well they were able to articulate this to their families. They also set realistic goals for themselves, and I hope we all work together to keep these goals in mind for the rest of fourth grade.
We also launched the second part of our Ideas that Change the World project! We went to Ruben H. Fleet Science Center to participate in an automata workshop and to get inspired by the innovation at the science museum. Some photos are below. In this project, students will create an invention that helps make someone's life better. In the past two weeks, we have researched problems facing our society, identified a need, and created a prototype for a solution. In the weeks to come, we will be using Design Thinking to further develop our process for creatively solving problems.
We would love to have any parents who are good with building, making, or prototyping come in and help with this process. Students are all working on individual projects, and there is plenty to do! Please contact us as soon as possible if you can come in sometime.
Our exhibition will take place on Tuesday, June 7th, at the San Diego History Center in Balboa Park. We launched this project by visiting this museum back in December, to look at their exhibit on the World's Fair in San Diego. Our final exhibition will be a re-creation of a World's Fair, with Room 14's vision of the future. Students will share their City of the Future as well as their inventions that will change the world. You may buy your tickets at the museum on the day of the exhibition, or you may pre-order tickets online through the San Diego History Center website by clicking "Buy Admission Tickets." We are so excited to have the opportunity to have our work featured in a real museum!
This Friday, we will have our biggest school event, Art From the Heart! Our parent association has worked hard to make this event feel more welcoming to all families. This is not just an auction, it is a social event for our school, a chance for parents to hang out with each other and, importantly, get to know our teachers better. Whatever funds we raise/don't raise is fine. We want everyone to be there! So, please come out! We'd love to see you there!
