Hello, Room 14 Families,
Our class is starting to really get the hang of our routines and expectations. We have been working hard at our What's the Big Idea? Project. Currently, students are immersed in metacognition. They are thinking about their identities, and the influences that shape their thinking about themselves. They are working on a writing piece which will come from the many journal entries we have been writing. We are also working on an art piece which integrates math and art to create a representation of each student in the context of our table groups. On Maker Mondays, students are learning how to use Adobe Illustrator to design their wooden puzzle piece that will be cut and etched with our laser cutter.
Email Addresses
In terms of technology, students have recently received access to their email addresses. We discussed privacy issues and technology expectations. We discussed that these are for school use only, which means that if they want to send personal emails, they will have to establish their own personal email accounts. Also, we discussed how to log into these accounts. Their email address is as follows: first initial, last name, 2024 @hightechhigh.org. For example, John Doe would type [email protected] to log into his Google email account at home.
Their password is explorer_ _ _ _ (the 4 digits that fill the blanks are their hot lunch number).
Google Classroom
We are also beginning to use Google Classroom to submit assignments. To use Google Classroom at home, type classroom.google.com into the web browser. Sign in with the HTH email account information and password. Click on Room 14 2015-2016 to see class assignments.
Khan Academy
We are going to start using Khan Academy as a part of our math work this year. I am sending home a permission form for students to sign up on Khan Academy. It will be in your child's homework folder today. If your child already has an account, it also has a place to note their account information for us. Please fill this out by Friday, October 2nd.
