What an amazing day! It was so great to meet up with some of the parents today, share a little about ourselves and connect about our common hopes and dreams for our students. Thanks to Jesse and Tess for the coffee! Tomorrow, we will send home a little blue note asking parents to share some things you wish we (the teachers) knew about your child. Also, look for more information in the document below about this coming year (schedule, curriculum, general expectations, etc.).
We also launched our Redesigning Recess project today at Urban Jungle Fun Park. We'll be using human centered design thinking to find the needs of our community regarding recess and to come up with solutions for these problems. For more information see the project handout we gave you today (or the ones your child will bring home tomorrow)!
The launch was a success! We got 75 fifth graders to spend time listening to one of the owners at Urban Jungle talk about their design thinking, how they used the space, their target audience, and how they knew what to put there. Students took notes, looked at the spaces, asked questions, and patiently waited to play. When they got to play, it was GAME ON! They were all hot and sweaty within 10 minutes. Hopefully, as they played, they got a chance to think about the apparatuses they were playing on too! Thanks to all our volunteer drivers for making this possible.
Also, thank you to those who made sure permission forms were turned in on time, who were able to help with donations to fund the next few field work opportunities, and who plan to help drive for the next trips. Please make sure you have documentation with Paula way ahead of time for driving. She was really bombarded with a lot of last minute driving forms, which make it hard for her to do her job.
